Ryan Groff of Lane Ryan Auctions.
Ryan’s path to becoming an auctioneer began with a childhood fascination for auctions in Central Pennsylvania. This early interest, nurtured on a dairy farm in Lancaster County, taught him the value of diligence, honesty, and integrity. These principles were pivotal when, after graduating from Manheim Central High School in 1998, Ryan started his apprenticeship at Hess Auction Group. Under John Hess’s mentorship, he built a solid foundation in the auction business, setting him up for a bright future.
In 2002, Ryan took a significant leap forward, joining Manheim Auto Auction and venturing into the world of automobile auctions. His entrepreneurial spirit soon led him to co-found Classic Edge Auctions and Appraisal Services with Erica (Wineske) Taylor. Together, they specialized in auctions for real estate, antiques, and personal property, showcasing Ryan’s innovative approach and business sense. However, in 2005, Ryan was ready for a new challenge. After selling his share of the company to Erica, he joined Kerry Pae Auctioneers, where he honed his skills in commercial liquidations, equipment, and bankruptcy auctions. This diverse experience paved the way for his future as a respected and adaptable auctioneer.
The culmination of Ryan’s experiences and skills led to the founding of Lane Ryan Auctions in 2015. Through his partnership with Kerry Pae, the company conducts over 200 auctions yearly, dealing in a wide range of items from vehicles to real estate, and generating more than $200 million annually. Holding auctioneer licenses in both Pennsylvania and Maryland and a Pennsylvania Real Estate License, Ryan is a respected figure in the auctioneering community and a member of the Pennsylvania Auctioneers Association. His journey from a passionate young observer at local auctions to a successful auctioneer demonstrates the power of ambition, continuous learning, and commitment to excellence.
